The Application
The Moog M3000 is a high-performance digital motion control system for hydraulic and electric drive products. The modular M3000 comprises a Moog Servo Controller (MSC), Moog Axis Control Software (MACS) and numerous, optional extension modules. The M3000 provides multiple software-configurable interfaces for SSI, encoders, CANopen, RS232, Ethernet, Profibus, and A/D outputs. It serves as the basis for distributed, motion control systems consisting of servo valves, servo-proportional valves, servo drives, and RKP (Radical Piston) pumps.

The Solution
The phyCORE-MPC5200B System on Module powers the system and offers flexible I/O conditioning based on an on-board FPGA that drives the Moog MSD motion controller. The FPGA also integrates various sensor interfaces such as SSI and an EnDat. EnDat is a digital, bidirectional interface that is ideal for digital drive systems and position control loops with position encoders for measurement feedback. Real-time Linux is the operating system. Reasons Moog chose PHYTEC as a partner include:
- CPU/FPGA design and Linux expertise
- Reduced overall product design risk due to PHYTEC’s knowledge of EMVC/EMI-optimized design of high frequency components
- Joint development of additional product features and subsequent integration of these features into PHYTEC’s standard phyCORE-MPC5200B module
