Stuff the phyTurkey!

The turkey you see to the left is not only adorable but it serves a great purpose. The phyTurkey is holding nonperishable items for the Central Kitsap Food Bank. A place where Puget Sound families in need can find much need support in times of trouble.

This Thanksgiving PHYTEC America constructed a project based on the phyBOARD-i.MX 8M dev kit. What does this project have to do with the food bank? Keep on reading to find out.

Meet the phyTurkey gobble machine

The phyTurkey gobble machine, created by our Support team members True Loan and John Feuerstein,  was constructed to gobble whenever a donation item was placed into the phyTurkey. The team collected different wav files from PHYTECers and cycles through them at random.

A demonstration of the phyTurkey gobble machine can be seen below, performed by our head of HR, Lisa Berg.

How was the phyTurkey gobble machine made?

Here’s a quick overview of the technical details:

  • Built with the phyBOARD-i.MX 8M Development Kit. The gobble machine utilizes I2C and USB peripherals of this embedded board.
  • An off the shelf, USB2.0 speaker and a motion sensor were the only additions needed.
  • The project took the creators less than an hour to create! Talk about fast development.

Why the phyBOARD-i.MX8M?

It is easy to use. As one of PHYTEC’s newest product there is plenty of stock and it is quick to get up and running.
