Happy SOM-O-Ween!

It’s the beginning of October, and there’s a crispness to the evening air that wasn’t there before. The sun sets slightly earlier, casting a golden hue over the day’s final moments, and the first leaves have begun to drift lazily to the ground. This subtle shift marks not only the end of summer but also the beginning of a new season—and with it, a new quarter. We find ourselves entering that time of year when spooky movies start to fill our screens, bringing thrills and chills to cozy nights. Just like the twists and turns of a good horror film, this quarter promises surprises, fresh opportunities, and a few challenges lurking around the corner. We’re ready to embrace them with the same excitement that comes with watching a classic scary movie—eyes wide open, ready for what’s next! What’s your favorite scary movie?

Night of the Living Demos

Q3 Events

Like the relentless rise of the undead in Night of the Living Dead, we unleashed our latest creations at events last quarter.

Got Debian? – Debian brings the convenience of a PC-like environment to embedded systems, enabling you to work on your application without the need to cross compile code using Yocto. It is a fast out of the box experience to try features in Linux. We were excited to play with this new offering that NXP announced this summer and made a couple new demos powered by the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus

  • Embedded Desktop – Basic user interaction including browser support. This demo has an interactive script that displays facts about Debian, for example, did you know Debian distribution codenames are based on the names of characters from the Toy Story films?
  • Snapchat-like filter – This playful demo superimposes a mustache, hat, or other accessories on your face in real-time, showing off the embedded imaging power of the i.MX 8M Plus.
  • Pick ‘Em League: We developed a third use case that automatically selects teams for our office Fantasy Football League, combining innovation with a bit of fun!

Unlock new possibilities for innovation, efficiency, and learn more about NXP’s support for Debian OS here. There will be one last chance to check out our PC-like Debian demo at NXP Tech Days Detroit on October 30th and 31st—a perfect Halloween finale! Come see it before it vanishes into the night.

The phyCADE – Just like a resurrected arcade game, our phyCADE demo, came to life at EOSS in Vienna, Austria. Based on the phyCORE-AM62x this demo currently runs the classic arcade game PacMan. Don’t worry it’s hungry for more games so you can look forward to that for future shows. Isn’t that PHUN?

It’s Alive!!!

phyCORE-i.MX 93 kits available

Much like Dr. Frankenstein pieced together his creation from powerful components, the i.MX 93 processor module combines cutting-edge elements to give life to your most advanced machine learning (ML) applications. Measuring a compact 36 mm x 36 mm, this tiny powerhouse is driven by NXP’s Energy Flex architecture, allowing you to create highly efficient yet robust systems. The module’s Arm® Ethos™-U65 microNPU delivers the computing brawn necessary to handle complex ML tasks, all while keeping energy consumption at a bare minimum—perfect for IoT applications that need to be both cost-effective and energy-efficient. The best part? phyCORE-i.MX 93 kits are available now as of Q3.

Your modern-day “creature” is ready to awaken—what will you create?

An International Werewolf in Paris

Global Sales Summit 2024

Earlier this month our global sales teams from America, Germany, China, India, and France converged for an exciting summit in Paris. This gathering was a rare opportunity to connect, exchange insights, and strategize, all while strengthening the global partnerships that drive our success, with Paris—famous for its history, culture, and touch of mystery—as our backdrop. As a global company with a presence in five countries, we leverage diverse perspectives to provide innovative solutions for our customers. The Beyond

What’s lurking in Q4

At PHYTEC, we venture beyond the standard SOM offerings, much like the journey into the uncanny worlds of 1981’s The Beyond (Italian supernatural horror film directed by Lucio Fulci that has become a cult classic known for its surreal imagery and intense horror). Our commitment to exceptional support includes advanced thermal management to ensure optimal performance (Thermal Accessory Kits for phyCORE-AM62x and phyCORE-AM64x coming soon!), comprehensive software support for seamless integration, proactive Product Lifecycle Management to ensure long-term availability for all our solutions, design services, and more. We believe in providing solutions that transcend expectations, enabling your projects to reach new heights. With PHYTEC, you’re entering a realm where innovation knows no bounds (and is a lot less scary than The Beyond!) In Q4 prepare to explore deeper into worlds beyond the SOM, anticipate a new YouTube video series by Applications Engineer True Loan featuring graphics platforms supported on the phyCORE-i.MX 8M Plus, Zephyr support and development kits for the phyCORE-RT1170, and a few other tricks we have up our sleeves. But beware—these new offerings might just unlock more than you expect, revealing powerful secrets lurking beneath the surface of embedded systems. Stay tuned… if you dare!

Hack-A-Pack with Zombie Zach!

At PHYTEC, we love hosting community projects that welcome boys and ghouls of all ages to embrace the spine-chilling fun of thinking like an engineer. With our Hack-Pack subscription from CrunchLabs a new robot arrives each month, shrouded in mystery, waiting for daring minds to bring it to life. In Q3 we hosted our first Hack-A-Pack with Hardware Engineering Lead, Zach Hudson, where two tiny engineers-in-training spent an afternoon at PHYTEC conjuring an eerie infrared turret, capable of rotating and aiming with ghostly precision. Our next Hack-A-Pack is creeping up on October 7th. Feeling brave enough to join the fun, or know someone who is? Reach out to us—after all, we’re dying to have you!
