Cornell University Race Team
Cornell Formula SAE is a group of undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D students who come together every year to design, manufacture, test, and eventually race a formula style, open-wheel race car in the Formula SAE competition every May. The 2002 Cornell FSAE team took to the competition with a strong design and well-tested car, walking (or, more accurately stated, "racing") away from the competition as seven-time world champions. New additions to the 2003 car - which placed 9th of 140 contestants - included a redesigned frame, adjustable pedal bay, new custom modified Tanner Shocks, a hydraulic clutch, and a newly built electronic control module and Powertrain system based on the PHYTEC phyCORE-MPC555 Single Board Computer subassembly.
The phyCORE-MPC555 is used in control of:
-
Spark and fuel for engine
-
Fully tunable 3-D maps for ignition and injection
-
Closed Loop Traction Control with wheelspeeds (TCS)
-
Accelerator Function
-
Idle Function
-
Engine Temperature Control - active control of fan and water pump
-
Electronic Wastegate for pre- and post- "choke" boost-control
-
Custom Dash
-
Custom User Interface
-
Cold and warm start functions
-
Brake pressure safety kill switch
-
Oil pressure safety kill
